How I got here
I didn’t plan to go independent. When my full-time role at Papa wound down, they didn’t want to lose the expertise. I’d built their lifecycle programs, and someone had to keep maintaining them and building for the new problems that always come up. So they kept me on as a contractor. I still run lifecycle for them today.
Truthfully, I always knew this model worked. I’d spent years on the agency side building alongside freelancers, and two decades inside companies like Earnest, PenFed, and ExpertVoice showed me how much of a full-time role is overhead that never touches the actual work. What companies need is the expertise, not the seat. I just never had the nerve to leap on my own. Getting pushed made the call for me, and with the tools available today, I realized a whole new way of working wasn’t just possible, it was better.
So that’s what LifecycleIQ is. I keep the roster small, usually a couple of core clients plus a short-term advisory engagement or two, and go deep with each: I architect the strategy, build in the platform myself, and train your team to own it after I’m gone. Senior hands, focused engagements, no overhead.
It wasn’t the plan, but here we are. I’m coming up on two years independent, and I haven’t looked back.
